PORTUGAL 0 FRANCE 0 - portugal win in extra time
So, Portugal won one game out of seven at Euro 2016 and yet we're calling them European Champions. While the likes of Germany, Italy and France impressed at times, Portugal simply didn't.
Portugal were the 16th team to make the last 16 - the only team to qualify with only 3 points, after they came 3rd in their group behind Hungary and Iceland. If the games were totted up in a League style, Portugal would have 9 points, France 14. In fact despite playing more games than all but France, the 'Champions' would be 6th in the 'League' also behind Wales, Germany, Italy and Belgium...
All that despite being selected in an 'easy group' and then ending up in the 'easy half' of the draw. Can't help thinking it's an absolutely disastrous tournament for UEFA. |
CUCUMBERS CONFIRM KNOCKOUT STAGE WIN
No points on the final day for The Cool Cucumbers, but the only team that could catch them - King of Siam - also failed to score so Oliver Willingham is our Knockout Stage League winner. I said yesterday that the mug would go to 2nd if Oliver won, but with Brendan Keenan climbing four places to 2nd - and having already won the overall competition - that won't be the case due to the 'one prize per manager' rule. |
MINI LEAGUE ROUND-UP
It was an exciting final day in the Hillhead Hopefuls League where Craig Douglas pinched the title from under the nose of Gary Watson. They had gone for different winners, but with the scores level at 90 minutes Gary was still in front by virtue of having predicted more exact scores. It all came down to the eventual winners... and it was Craig that had gone for Portugal and so win the League by those last 2 points.
Meanwhile in Neymar Messin' About! Portugal's extra time goal also settled the title. One point separated the top three before the Final, and it still did after 90 minutes with no-one going for the draw. 3rd placed Steven was the only won to predict Portugal to ultimately win if it was a draw, and those magical 2 points send a mug in the direction of Kroos Control. |
