PERFECT SCORE NUMBER 12 AS NOTTS WIN GROUP STAGE
Terrible day for Notts Co USA really - three matches out of four they scored zero points, but of course they got the other one (Sweden 0 Belgium 1) spot-on. Correct score number 12 - exactly one right in every three matches, 33% better than the next best, and Notts finish the Group Stage as highly impressive winners with 71 points. Brendan Keenan starts the Knockout Stage with a whopping 16 point lead over our new 2nd placed team, The Woodenmen. 3 points today were enough to see Matt Woodmansey's boys climb two places - those points coming for Ireland's win. |
HUGE DAY FOR TRE LEONI
On a day of pretty awful scores (almost) all round, one performance stands out a mile. Well done to Tre Leoni, who were only let down by Hungary... of the eight teams that played, Roisin Guargena correctly predicted how many goals seven of them would score. 15 points for three perfect scores, but a long way off with Hungary 0 Portugal 3. Leoni climb a massive 25 places from 30th to 5th. |
SWEDEN 0 BELGIUM 1
I was surprised to see the predictions for this one so strong in favour of one team... 53 going for a Belgium win against 10 for Sweden. It completes four matches for the night therefore with strong favourites (albeit this one less than Portugal and Italy) and this one is the only one to go to plan. Only six of the 53 who went for Belgium got the score right. |
ITALY 0 IRELAND 1
Another near-foregone conclusion that went wrong... three quarters of us predicting an Italy win and just 6% getting the Ireland victory. Three teams pick up 5 points for 1-0, three get 3 points for predicting 2-1 while 70 score -2 having picked Italy. |
HUNGARY 3 PORTUGAL 3
The vast majority (81%) predicted a first win for Portugal to see them through following their two draws, with just 5% predicting a win for Hungary, who have shocked us all by already being guaranteed a Last 16 place before this match started. 13 went for the all-important draw, though not surprisingly no-one predicted 3-3. |
ICELAND 2 AUSTRIA 1
Nearly half of us went for Austria for this one. It's been a disappointing tournament for a team some 'experts' tipped as a dark horse to progress quite far, they're on the way home. 18 went for Iceland with eight managers that had predicted 2-1 jumping out of their chairs as the winner went in, in the dying seconds. |
